Foster Families Need Grace

We’re not heroes.
We’re not perfect.

We’re just people who said yes to stepping into a broken system—to love kids who are scared and, sometimes, to love their their siblings and parents too

We’re the ones wiping tears after visit or interaction.
Holding little ones through nightmares.
Trying to guard their hearts without losing our own.
We get attached because we’re meant to go all in all the time. Because every child deserves that kind of love.

And the truth is, sometimes we’re grieving even while the kids are still here.
Because the fear of what’s coming next can feel unbearable. Or the uncertainty. Or the traumas

So yes, show grace to the mom trying to rebuild her life.
Show grace to the dad learning how to be a safe place.
But please, don’t forget the foster mom and dad on their knees at midnight, whispering prayers for a child they may have to send back into the chaos they just rescued them from. The kids we’ve had to let go… Those kids haunt me

This calling is beautiful.
It’s painful.
It’s sacred.
And it’s hard.

So if we’re going to give grace, let’s make sure there’s enough to go around.
Because what this work needs most isn’t judgment.

It’s compassion.
It’s prayer
Its support in all ways
Its a village

And it’s people who are willing to stand in the middle of the tension, where love makes room for both truth and mercy.
